This is not your grandparents' cruise!

In times past, we tended to view cruising as the type of vacation taken by our grandparents. Not any more. Today, there are many exciting, fun-filled, adventure-packed cruise vacations that also offer you the opportunity to simply sit back and relax, if you choose to do so.

Many vacationers have never taken a cruise vacation because of the fear of seasickness. However, new technologies in weather forecasting and shipbuilding have significantly helped to avoid such problems. Stabilizers on modern cruise ships and available over-the-counter medication help to lessen and sometimes prevent the discomfort of motion sickness. Travelers can also request a cabin in the center of the ship where there is less movement.

First-time cruisers can also choose from over 30 Caribbean destinations and over 10 departure ports in the United States. There are a variety of themes, activities, shore excursions and cruise lengths from which to choose, and vacationers can select from the most modern mega-ships to a smaller and more intimate experience on a specialty cruise ship.

Included in the cost of your cruise are your accommodations, meals and most entertainment. Typically, you are responsible for beverages that you consume while onboard, your shore excursions, and gratuities for your cabin and meal stewards. Cruise vacations are also great values, providing the convenience similar to an all-inclusive (land) vacation.

The first step in your Caribbean cruise adventure is to select your destination. Cruise lines operate specific itineraries from each departure port. In deciding on your Caribbean destination, you would therefore want to consider where the departure port is located, and how easily you can travel there from your home. Although cruise lines can include your air travel in the cost of your cruise, you may find some cost savings if you book you own trip. However, if you choose to book your own air travel, you will need to allow yourself plenty of time to get to the port from the airport, and also factor in the cost.

At time of check-in, you typically need to register a credit card with the cruise line. Your onboard charges are then booked directly to your card. Keep close track of your charges during your trip, so that there are no unwelcome surprises when you are presented with your final bill.

Finally, have fun on your vacation! The Caribbean offers many fun destinations, and your choice of any number of attractions and activities to see while you are there. We are sure that this will not be your last Caribbean adventure.
