In order to ensure that your cruise vacation is as fun and relaxing as possible, you should review your cruise travel documents carefully and remember to bring your passport and any other required documents.

Allow yourself plenty of time to get from the airport to the cruise ship terminal. If you have opted to book your own flight to the departure city, plan on arriving early in the day, or even the night before your scheduled departure date. Unforeseen airport delays can be a costly delay to your trip. You may also wish to purchase trip insurance in case there are any unforeseen events that delay or prevent you from arriving at the terminal on time. You should plan on checking in at the port at least 60 minutes prior to departure. Many cruise lines will allow you to board up to 3 hours before departure, so you are better off arriving early and avoiding costly cancellation penalties for missing your ship.

Remember to pack any medications that you may need while onboard, and also bring any personal items necessary for your trip. Your bags are subject to search, and as such, it is advisable that you do not pack any illegal substances. Your travel documents also list any items that you are prohibited from bringing aboard the cruise ship.

Most cruise lines offer you the opportunity of booking your shore excursions before your departure date. Booking your activities is a good idea because many excursions are sold out by the time your ship has left port. You also avoid the long lines onboard.

Choose your cruise line carefully, bearing in mind that if you have an enjoyable experience, you will likely return for another trip in the future. Cruise line loyalty programs reward returning passengers with many perks, including room upgrades, on-board shopping discounts and early check-in times.

As with any other vacation, you should pack comfortable clothing and leave valuable jewelry and possessions at home. Consider using travelers checks and debit/credit cards in lieu of cash, and remember to tip those who have provided you with excellent service. (There are published guidelines for appropriate tipping at the end of your trip). Visit the cruise line's web site. Some cruise lines offer guests the opportunity of completing some of the boarding documents online, and often provide useful information for your trip. These simple suggestions may help you own your way to a great Caribbean adventure. Enjoy!
